Health Aide

Minimum requirements

Education
Possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions, a high degree of verbal skill, and the ability to perform basic mathematical computations, including percentages and averages.

Experience
One (1) year of continuous work experience involving working with children, youth and adults. The work experience must have demonstrated the individual’s ability to work independently with minimal supervision; to follow oral and written instructions; prepare simple reports; and to communicate effectively.

Certification

  • Current certification in first aid, i.e. American Red Cross, American Heart Association.
  • Current certification in child and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), i.e. American Red Cross, American Heart Association.

Employee background check
Completion of the Kamakau's fingerprinting and criminal history background check will be required after the processing of your application, and prior to your entry into the School Health Aide training program.

 

Duties, responsibilities

The school health aide substitute will:

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students at their assigned school.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized health room.
  • Demonstrate proper health room procedures for students coming into and leaving the Health Room.
  • Appropriately complete documentation on the Health Room Log, and the School Health Aide Monthly Report Form if on a long-term assignment.
  • Protect and maintain the confidentiality of all student information in the Health Room.
  • The School Health Aide's work is generally performed in the health room of an assigned school.
  • The School Health Aide is under the general administrative supervision of the School Principal, and is afforded clinical consultation with an assigned Department of Health (DOH) Registered Nurse (RN).

General Experience Requirement:
FLUENT IN THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE. Teacher's license in the state of Hawaiʻi for Teachers; Bachelor's degree or completion of college course work for Educational Assistants.
