Aloha mai kākou,
 
Welcome back to the second semester at Kamakau! We are excited to celebrate our 17th year as a Hawaiian Medium School on January 8, 2017. We have many exciting school events planned for Spring 2017, including some of the following-
• January 21, 2017
• Makahiki Kuilima- a community educational event at Turtle Bay, focused on Makahiki games and celebrations
• February 18, 2017
• Hoʻomau Concert- A benefit concert for all Hawaiian Immersion schools, Preschool through grade 12 on the island of Oʻahu, at the Bishop Museum
• March 17, 2017
• Nā ʻAlapa Kamakau- school fun run/walk in Haʻikū valley to continue our fundraising efforts for a permanent Hale ʻAina (multi-purpose gathering place)
 
 
Elementary Grades (Preschool-Grade 6)
• Third Quarter focus of study- Mea Kanu & Holoholona/Plants & Animals
• Fourth Quarter focus of study- Kanaka/People
• AITS Grant- Elementary grades are currently preparing a hana keaka (play), Culture of Ma Kai: Performing Stories of the Ahupuaʻa
 
 
College and Career Program- Our students are blessed with the numerous opportunities exposing them to a successful future in college and/or career. Some being offered during the 2016-2017 school year include the following- 
• Kīkaha Nā ʻIwa- A partnership with the Kamehameha Schools to provide a college & career counselor on campus to provide some of the following services
• College tours
• Career Exploration- guest speakers, career days, mock interviews, etc
• Resume building
• Personal Statement/College applications
• Financial Planning and Scholarship searches
• Dual Credit Offerings- A partnership with Windward Community College, where college courses are offered to all eligible students in grades 9-12
• SP 151- Speech (3 credits) offered Summer 2016
• HWST 130- Olapa I (3 credits) offered Fall 2016
• HWST 270- Hawaiian Mythology (3 credits) offered Spring 2017
• Test Prep HI- SAT test prep coach, Mr. Karelitz meets weekly with our students to prepare them for the SAT/PSAT/ACT with general test taking strategies
